May 2008
Riverfest

Deschutes River Conservancy

Tumalo Art Co. will be hosting a group show during May (our 3rd anniversary!) featuring art about rivers. As a group we like to make a donation to an organization supporting the environment in our area. Keeping the waters of the Deschutes River flowing at levels that support wildlife year round is Deschutes River Conservancy's mission and they are devoted to that task. A percentage of sales during May will be donated to DRC.

August 2008
Double Vision

Tracy Leagjeld and I will be sharing a show at Tumalo Art Co. in Bend opening during the First Friday Gallery Walk August 1. Tracy and I have a similar color and subject sense, but work in totally different mediums. She is well-known for her monotype landscapes executed with different sized rollers and I use soft pastel and acrylic. We are also partners working closely together running Tumalo Art Co. We're looking forward to painting some of the same scenes from our own perspectives.

This fall I spent a magical day photographing spawning kokanee in Trapper's creek at Odell Lake in Oregon. As a child I spent many days exploring Trapper's Creek while my dad and brother fished for Kokanee. I had never seen water so clear and cold or eaten fish that tasted so good. Now back many years later it was almost a shock to look in the water and see hundreds of brilliantly colored fish laying in formation barely moving, the only sound gurgling water. Other people were walking quietly through the closed campground looking up and pointing. They were checking out the eagles perched in the tops of the trees who were focused on the fish in the water just as I was.
This painting "Clear Creek" is a 48 x 30 acrylic on canvas, with 2.5" wrapped and painted sides and is the first of the series I plan to do from photos taken at Odell on that crisp fall day.

Interpreting nature's beauty with color and pattern in both soft pastel and acrylic on canvas is my passion. Flashing  FISH underwater and blackbirds, geese, herons and other  BIRDS (even some butterflys) catch my eye. They are mysterious...fascinating and live in a world we can't enter, only observe and dream of. And, of course, the dramatic LANDSCAPE that surrounds me is a source of constant inspiration.

Now in our 3rd year!
